* If you don’t have a naver account already, check out our article on how to create a naver account and best ways to use it.
How to Verify Naver Account
In order to gain full access to Naver’s services, the platform requires users to verify their identity. You can do this from both Korea and overseas.
From Korea, you will need a Korean phone number and your phone close to you.
From abroad, you will need a scan of a valid government-issued identification document like a passport or a driver’s license.
You can do this from both desktop and mobile, but we recommend doing it from your PC, especially if you are doing it from overseas, as some part of the verification process seems to sometimes glitch on mobile.
Verify Naver Account from Korea
If you are already in Korea and have a valid Korean phone number that you got with your ARC (Alien Registration Card), then this will be very quick.
STEP 1 – Open Naver and Log In
STEP 2 – Go to your Account Info and click on “Edit”
STEP 3 – Click on “Verify”
STEP 4 – Select “휴대폰” (Phone) to proceed with verification through phone number, tick the agreement box and click on the “확인” (Confirm) button
STEP 5 – Fill out the form in the Pop-up window
Tick all Terms and Agreement items, fill in the empty boxes accordingly and make sure to choose “외국인” (Foreigner).
Choose your telecom provider, fill in your phone number and then click on the “인증” (certification) button to request a verification code which will be sent through a text message. Input the verification code into the “Certification Number” box and click “확인” (Confirm).
You’re done! Go back to your account page and you should see that your name appears in full capital letters.
Verify Naver Account from Overseas
If you don’t have a Korean ID and phone number, you can still verify your Naver account with a foreign ID card (passport or driver’s license).
STEPS 1 to 3 are identical to the process of verifying from Korea (see above).
STEP 4 – Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “If you need help”, then proceed to click on “help”
STEP 5 – On the new page, scroll down to “Foreigners (without an alien registration card)” and fill out the whole form according to the instructions.
Make sure to tick all consent boxes. When attaching a photo of your valid ID, make sure to cover all important information except full name, birthday and gender (you can even cover up your photo), since that’s all Naver needs to check.
Within 24 hours, Naver should get back to you with an email confirming that your account has been successfully verified.
How to Set Up Naver Pay as a Foreigner
- A Verified Naver Account
- A Bank Account with a Korean Bank.
- An Android or Apple iOS Smartphone.
- Phone service from a Korean telecom provider – SK Telecom, Korea Telecom (KT), or LG U+.

A robot voice will spell out your name and read your information out loud, asking you to confirm the registration of the bank account. You can simply wait until the it is done speaking, and then pull up the keypad and type the 2-digit number from earlier. The call will end automatically after verification.
After the call, click on “ARS 인증 완료” (ARS Verification Complete).
STEP 6 – Account Verification
Naver does one last check by sending 1 KRW to your account. The sender will appear in your transactions list as a sequence of letters (N followed by 4 others), so open your bank app to find that sequence.
Type those 4 letters in the field on the screen, then click on “계좌 인증 완료” (Account Verification Complete).

If your screen looks like this, congratulations! You have now set up Naver Pay with a bank account and you can click on “확인” (Confirm).

You can later add more cards to your account by following the same process.
