Budnamu Brewery

A new craft beer brewery has opened in the beachside city of Gangneung, in Gangwon-do. Budnamu currently serves six beers on tap, four of which are brewed in-house by Australian brewer Phillip Rankmore, as well as guest beers from local and overseas craft breweries. More are expected to follow in the next month.

Budnamu seeks to infuse traditional styles of beer with local Korean ingredients, as exemplified by its pine extract saison and Changpo (a plant known as Sweet Flag) Rauchbeir. Says Rankmore: “We really think that there are so many traditional Korean ingredients that a lot of people just don’t know that much about, and we think they can add a lot to beer.”
