Gyeonggi Discovery: Suwon’s Hippest Neighborhood, Yeongtong

Table of contents

This district on the outskirts of Suwon is dominated by many tall buildings packed densely together in the centre of this small dong (동, neighborhood). Recognizable by 24-hour flashing neon, the area is one of the top night spots in Suwon.

Here a mix of university students, upwardly mobile Koreans and expats all converge to socialize seven nights a week. The diversity of local residents and visitors has encouraged the opening of a wide variety of venues where you can relax and let your hair down.

The very centre of Yeongtong is unmistakable: tall buildings, loud music blaring into the street, and flashing lights. There is a plethora of tuna restaurants, franchised restaurants and coffee shops everywhere, and all are packed within easy stumbling distance of each other.

Things To Do In Yeongtong’s Vibrant District

Located in the heart of Yeongtong, Fiddler’s Pub is a popular Western-style bar known for its friendly atmosphere and regular events, such as St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. It’s a favorite among both locals and expats looking for a familiar pub environment.

While not directly in Yeongtong but nearby, Alleyway Taphouse near Paldalmun offers a selection of craft beers and a welcoming setting. It’s another spot where visitors can experience Suwon’s nightlife.

For those seeking daytime activities, Yeongtong Central Park provides a serene environment with scenic beauty, making it ideal for leisurely walks and family outings.

Yeongtong’s Special Cafes

Yeongtong isn’t just about nightlife though, it’s also home to a growing café culture that caters to coffee lovers and those looking for a relaxing escape.

If you’re looking for a European-style café in Yeongtong, you might want to pay a visit to Lazy House. The place offers a stylish interior and a menu featuring a variety of coffee and dessert options.

Situated in Paldal-gu, Moi Coffee Classic is renowned for its delicious coffee and pastries. And if you are a real coffee lover like I am, you can even purchase their coffee beans home.

Lastly, located near Suwon’s Hwaseong Fortress, Jung Jiyoung Coffee Roasters is a place you don’t want to skip. It offers not only excellent coffee but has a stunning rooftop view and is a very popular spot, so arriving early is recommended!

Bus numbers are 7,7-2,310,900,5-1. You can take those buses at suwon station and can get down infront of Kyung Hee University, just cross the road, you’ll get to yeongtong-dong.

  • yeongtong's oldest

you could have said the bus numbers… the 5107 from seoul station and Myeong dong area along with the 5100 from gangnam. also there are buses from suwon station that will take you close to yeongtong home plus – I lived there for two years and I do believe 10 is correct – I lived in yeongtong from 2010
to 2012 …. I just have to add don’t believe this article so not worth it compared to Seoul. If Now Bar was still there then I would agree its
a decent place but now I believe you’d find better places in Seoul.
