Description

Seoul Korean Language Academy

Seoul Korean Language Academy (KLA) is a specialized Korean language institution that has been teaching since 1999. They are authorized by the Ministry of Education as a specialized Korean language institute and boast a good location and streamlined system.

Seoul Korean Language Academy Curriculum

All instructors who work at KLA must receive teacher’s training and plan syllabi very meticulously every week. They are also proud that they focus on small groups where students can improve their speaking skills. They have several courses: regular course, private lesson/visiting lecture, tailored classes for company, TOPIK preparation course, business class, short term program, and webcam courses. They also allow free observation for an hour of a class before registration.

Regular Course

The regular classes are focused on learning conversation, reading, writing, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. They have 13 levels from basic to advanced conversation that correspond with TOPIK levels. Conversation courses are done in small groups of 4-5 maximum, while other classes are typically 3-9. They offer a variety of times and frequencies of classes, with 2-hour classes 5, 3, and 2 times a week in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings, as well as Saturday intensive classes. They use the “New Ganada Korean” textbooks and workbooks.

Private/Visiting Lecture

This is a customized lesson tailored to each student’s level, time, and needs to maximize the results. You can learn what you want quickly and efficiently. This option is geared towards students with irregular availability who have special goals such as entrance exams or want to study with their friends. You can choose the class time, date, textbook, and areas of study. These areas include survival/travel Korean, naturalization test prep, speaking, pronunciation, business Korean, TOPIK, grammar, and writing. For visiting lectures, sessions should be at least 90 minutes.

Tailored Class for Company

This class is for companies who wish to provide Korean lessons to their foreign employees. The prices are the same as private and visiting lectures. KLA can dispatch experienced teachers and tailor the curriculum for education and business Korean. If students are on business trips, the classes can also be converted to an online format. They have worked with domestic companies like Samsung Electronics, SM Entertainment, and Kim & Chang Law Firm, as well as foreign companies like Google Korea, Goldman Sachs Group, and Nestle.

TOPIK Preparation Course

The TOPIK class is a comprehensive preparation class for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) and a good choice for students who want to be admitted to Korean universities, have a longer-term visa, or check their own Korean abilities. The class focuses on vocabulary, grammar, writing, listening, reading, and analysis. They offer 1:1 help for writing and give out previous tests to prepare for the actual test. KLA is so experienced in teaching TOPIK that they have their own TOPIK textbook. They offer afternoon and evening classes on Mondays/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays, as well as Saturday classes.

Business Course

This class is for intermediate students who want to learn more business-oriented Korean, like writing emails, making phone calls, preparing for an interview, and making presentations. The class is offered on Wednesdays from 7-8:50pm and the class size is around 3-9 students. They use the Pro Business textbook and handouts for the class.

Short-term Intensive Program

This 5-day, 4 hours/day class is for students who want to learn the language and have cultural experiences in a short period of time. Every day has 4 hours of lessons followed by optional cultural activities including making kimchi, yut game competitions, and watching performances. For an additional fee, you can also join the regular morning course. They use the “New Ganada Korean” textbook and handouts.

Webcam Classes

The online classes are for students who cannot come to the school because they live far away, wish to take the lesson in a comfortable place and time, or just prefer an online format. They use Skype, and the teaching material will be selected based on the student’s level or preference.
