Green Korean Language School

Green Korean Language School (GKLS), located in Jongno, has been teaching Korean to foreign students of different ages and various nationalities. In addition to a variety of Korean Language Programs, they also offer Korean culture experiences like Taekwondoe, making kimchi, K-POP dance, etc. GKLS teachers are all qualified and are chosen through a difficult 3 step process and have to attend frequent seminars and evaluations.

Green Korean Language School Curriculum

All instructors are experts with a masters or bachelors degree in Korean as a foreign language, and they even offer extra lessons for slow learners. They have several courses: regular course, pronunciation course, private lesson, visiting lecture, TOPIK preparation course, conversation course, Saturday intensive course, and online courses.

Regular Course

The regular classes are the most popular. They have up to 13 levels from beginner to advanced. Students must first take a placement test. A single class is around 3-15 students and there are morning, afternoon, evening, and Saturday classes. Duration and frequency depends on which class you choose to enroll in. They use the “Sogang Korean” series and focus on conversation.

Private Lesson and Visiting Lecture

This is a customized lesson tailored to each student’s level, time, and needs to maximize the results. You can learn what you want quickly and efficiently. The curriculum can cover anything the student wants. A private lesson would take place at the GKLS Institute, while a visiting lecture can be given at any location that a student wishes.

These classes are typically one-on-one, but if a student forms a group of 2-4 with people of similar levels, then a private group lesson is available as well. Private lessons have to be scheduled for a minimum of 90 minutes per lesson and 90 minutes in the evening past 6 pm, weekends, and holidays. Visiting lectures should be for a minimum of 90 minutes per lesson. Students can choose whatever textbook they want.

TOPIK Preparation Course

The TOPIK class is a comprehensive preparation class for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) and a good choice for students who want to be admitted to Korean universities or be qualified for jobs in a Korean-speaking environment. The course includes sample questions from past TOPIK tests and an auxiliary textbook. Class size is around 2-15 people. This class only has the intermediate and advanced levels and is offered from 7-9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the Intermediate level and Mondays and Wednesdays for the Advanced level.

Pronunciation/Intensive Conversation Course

The pronunciation class is for those who wish to improve their speaking skills because they want to sound like a Korean person. The class only has the advanced level. Class size is around 2-10 students and meets from 7-9pm on Mondays.

The intensive conversation course focuses mainly on speaking and listening so you improve your communication skills. It focuses on practicing speaking in a range of different situations, learning idioms and accurate expressions, and improving listening and speaking skills. They have both intermediate and advanced class levels. Class size is around 2-10 students and meets from 2-4pm on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Short Term Course

This course is for students who need a short class. GKLS offers 2, 3, 4, and 10 days courses. They are typically 1:1 but can be in a group format. You decide the starting date and duration, and one day is 3 hours. Students can study whatever they want, from improving practical speaking skills, grammar study, pronunciation correction, business Korean, TOPIK preparation, and more. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. For those who choose the 5 or 10 days class, they get a free 50 minute class in either practical conversation or pronunciation. You can also take seasonal short term group classes with a fixed time in the summer and winter.

Class for Young Kids

This class for young kids is suitable for Korean children who live overseas and want to learn the language, or any child who wants to learn Korean. The class will cover elementary Korea from reading and writing the Korean alphabet, greetings, number expressions, conversation, and Korean culture. The class is offered from Monday-Thursday from 10am-1pm.
