Seodaemun Prison History Museum

Seodaemun Prison History Museum is a former prison now turned museum located in Seodaemun Independence Park. For the history geeks among us: this is a place you must not miss out on if you want to learn about past Japanese occupation in Korea.

The museum was built in remembrance of all the executed Korean Independence Movement followers, patriots, and political prisoners. The grounds include seven jail cells, a historical exhibition hall, an execution room, watchtowers and a basement jail cell.

Opening days & hours

Open from Tuesday to Sunday.

During Summer season (March-October): 9.30 am to 6 pm

During Winter season (November-February): 9.30 am to 5 pm

Cost

The admission fee for adults is 1,500 won, 1,000 won for teenagers (age 13-18) and 500 won for children (age 7-12). Free for senior citizens and children under 6 years old.

The museum is located near the subway station Dongnimmun (line 3), exit 5.
