Weekly Clubbing Pick: Kyle Hall @ Cakeshop 7.12.2014
Anyone who has kept up with these weekly submissions knows that I’m a big fan of what the guys at Cakeshop do. In a city that increasingly pushes its venues into the commercial/mainstream EDM realm (ripping 128 BPM electro at the pool at noon on a weekday?? C’mon guys…), it’s extremely important to have outliers that focus on delivering unique, fresh, and future-thinking content to people. Cakeshop is one of the best at what it does, and this weekend’s guest DJ is a great example of their vision.
Kyle Hall spent time learning from some of the best talent Detroit has to offer during a sort of “glory days” period in the 90’s, including Theo Parrish, Omar-S, Carl Craig, and more, and is quickly forging his own sound and identity to stand tall with these guys. As a Detroit native who marinated in the sounds that continue to echo across the globe towards discerning ears, and a label head (Wild Oats) with massive industry support, Hall is yet another notch in Cakeshop’s ever-increasing list of impressive bookings and this weekend should be a great time to check out why Cakeshop is consistently listed as one of the best clubs in Seoul.
Cakeshop is located at the very end of Itaewon’s main strip, just past McDonald’s. There’s always a huge crowd congregating in the open space outside, so it’s impossible to miss. For more information and reservations, call 010-4765-6139.
