A video recently aired on MBC news shows a teacher lining her students up and slapping them as punishment.
Despite the blurred video, it is clear to see the students lining up in the classroom, while the teacher slaps them hard across the face, one by one. As she goes through the line, the slaps are audible and several students are seen to try and protect themselves – only to get a double slap if trying to protect themselves.
The teacher can be heard yelling at the students: “What is this? What is this? Move your hand!” and
“I definitely told you I was going to hit [you].”
The video, which is from an all girls school, is a disturbing visual example of corporal punishment in Korean schools.
