Running enthusiasts rejoice! For those with North Korea on their bucket list, the Pyongyang marathon is happening April 10 next year, and they want you to be part of it. Tour agencies based in China have begun marketing the event and with only 1500 spots available to foreigners, participation is limited. Race options include full, half or mini marathons. For those who couldn’t think of anything worse than organized physical activity, you can join the 70, 000 strong crowd billed to attend the event. The tours offer the usual lineup of “must see” destinations in Pyongyang city as well as the demilitarized zone. A 5 day tour package will generally set holidaymakers back around $1000 USD.
