The Praum Gallery in Busan will be hosting an art exhibition from artist Gaby Berglund Cardenas from April 15 – 30.
From the artist: “Journal Pages: on Balance” is a series of woodcuts, books and installations. They are pieces of my memory or imagination questioning the tensions, demands and challenges inherent in living in a rapidly changing world. I think this theme is relevant to everyone because in our age of productivity we all struggle with trying to reach ‘work/life balance’. Every day we run away from boredom regardless of its creative and spiritual benefits trying to be more efficient while we miss being in the moment, being present. This capacity for presence or mindfulness is of course essential for balance.
What is characteristic about the technique I use to print my woodcuts is that they aren’t pressed in a machine but foot-printed, which is an old Japanese technique rarely used these days. At the same time I’ve made an installation for this exhibition (No Mind) that uses ink Latin calligraphy scripts several meters long. They are part of my meditation practice, which I learned as part of Zen Buddhism in Korea.
I’m hoping the viewer, everyone, will see themselves or empathize in this search for balance”
