Club NB2 Hongdae: One of the Oldest (and still hottest) Clubs in Seoul
The club scene starts and ends with club NB2 /NB1 Hongdae. The flagship venue NB2 first opened back in 2000, making it one of the longest running clubs in the whole country (little sister NB1 following along shortly after). It is owned and operated by YG Entertainment, and caters to all kinds of club goers. Hongdae has a reputation as one of the trendier art and drinking areas in Seoul, but NB2 & NB1’s consistent, eclectic mix of good music and reasonable drink and door prices has made it a staple of not just the club scene, but the entire Hongdae nightlife scene. There’s a consistent mix of Koreans (mostly college students) and foreigners of all shapes and sizes. The crowds are great, seven nights a week. You don’t need to wear anything formal, but there is a minimal dress code, so don’t wear your jogging suit and flip flops.
NB2 and NB1 are hip hop at heart. However the club’s fundamental appreciation of the music, along with attention to different musical genres has made it what it is today. They spin ’90’s hip hop as well as current hip hop, but cater to a wider variety of musical tastes as well, including top 40 hits and some EDM (electronic dance music, for those not in the know).
From subway line 2: Get off at Hongik University Station (Exit 9). Walk about 100 meters and turn left at McDonald’s. Go all the way up to the 3-way intersection (Hongik Unversity Entrance), and take a right. NB2 is about 50 meters down, across from NB1.
From subway line 6: Get off at Sangsu Station (Exit 2). Do a 180 out the exit, follow Wausan-ro down about 100 meters. NB2 will be on your right.
