Gangneung Danoje Festival is a traditional festival designated as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005. This festival perpetuates Joseon Dynasty’s folk culture, with various activities such as performances, mask play, folk games (wrestling, swinging contest), parade and more. If you can’t make it to Gangneung, you can also go to the Dano Festival in Seoul which will take place in Namsangol Hanok Village and the National Folk Museum of Korea.

To get there you can take a bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Gangneung Express Bus Terminal for 3 hours. Then from the bus station, take bus 211, 211-1 or 227-1 and get down at the Dano Culture Center Bus Stop.
