Every year, the city of Daegu is organizing the Daegu Colorful Dalgubul Lantern Festival, also known simply as the Daegu Lantern Festival. The festival is held to celebrate Buddha’s birthday, but distinguishes itself among other festivals with its Wish Lantern Flying event on April, 27th, 2019. Following the release of sky lanterns, there will be a fireworks show and then the Lantern Parade will march the streets of Daegu.From May 3rd to May 6th, you will have the opportunity to watch the Lantern Exhibition displayed on the river Sincheon and many cultural performances. You will also be able to participate in several cultural experience programs, like a lantern-making program.

To attend the Wish Lantern Flying event, you will have to buy tickets on TicketLink. There are 2 opening dates to buy the ticket online:
Round 1: Saturday, March 30th, 2019 at 8 pm.
Round 2: Saturday, April 6th, 2019 at 8 pm.
The deadline to buy tickets is Thursday, April 11th, 2019 at 11:59 pm. Tickets will be shipped to your address on Friday, April 12th, 2019.Every year, the tickets sold out within a few minutes, so if you can’t purchase them online, you can buy tickets on the spot starting from 11 am on the day of the event (April, 27th, 2019). Be aware that not many tickets are available so you better come early to queue up since sales are on a first-come-first-serve basis (only 6,000 tickets in 2017).Prices start from 10,000 won for 2-person entry tickets to 30,000 won for 4-person entry tickets, a sky lantern, and a character lantern.
On April 27th, the Wish Lantern Flying and other cultural performances will be performed at the Duryu Baseball Stadium (두류공원야구장). The parade will then march the Dalgubeol-daero (달구벌대로), starting from the baseball stadium and finishing at the Banwol Dangnae Street (반월당네거리).The Lantern Exhibition (May 3rd-6th) will be located on the whole area of Daegu Sincheon (대구 인천) such as Sangdong-Gyo Bridge (상동교), Jungdonggyo Bridge (중동교), and Huimang-Gyo (희망교).
