Fourteen-year-old Chloe Kim made headlines when she became the youngest winner at any Winter X Games event. At the Games held January 24th in Aspen, Kim won gold medal in the Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe competition, receiving a score of 92 on her final run. She beat Kelly Clark, ending Clark’s push for five consecutive golds. With bandages on her face from a crash during practice, Kim expressed her excitement at having shared a chairlift with Clark, whom she has admired. Kim’s parents emigrated from Korea and she started snowboarding at the age of 4. While she was too young to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, she will be eligible for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
