Genji the Grill greets diners with an expansive courtyard reminiscent of a Balinese luxury resort, and the tasteful decor extends throughout the restaurant. This gives the impression of fine dining, when in fact the food fails to stand out against the luxury interior and prices. The grilled fare, like the popular gorgonzola steak and the tadaki (seared rare steak), are quite good though, if slightly overpriced. The extensive wine and drinks list is a strong point. Genji stands out as a classy, tranquil alternative to Hongdae’s raucous clubs, even if it is not quite a gastronomic dining experience. Go for the drinks, enjoy the food.
To get there take exit 1 out of Sangsu Station (line 6), walk north and turn left at the 7/11. Take the second left and Genji is on the right.
