Charcoalo: Thinking Inside the Box

The Apgujeong neighborhood is always looking for the next trendy idea to capture the imagination, so Charcoalo is right at home in its fashionable side streets. The barbeque joint’s exterior is made entirely of industrial shipping containers. But the main draw of this quirky eatery is not in its presentation, but in its preparation. As the name suggests, Charcoalo prepares all of their meats on charcoal grills. One of the most appealing dishes is their pit smoker ribs, but be forewarned: calling ahead and making a reservation at least three hours in advance is required if you want your dinner to include this carefully tended dish. Other great options include a variety of juicy barbeque burgers, with the “Mexican Style” burger being a nice alternative for those fatigued by standard fare. Steaks are made from exceptional cuts, but expect to pay a premium for them. Charcoalo is a good go-to for serious meat lovers, and generous portions are guaranteed to leave you satisfied. To get there from Apgujeong Station Exit 3, walk to the intersection near HiMart. Turn left and walk for about 15 minutes just past the CGV Theater, then turn left at the Jaguar/Land Rover dealership. Take the first left, then the first right. Charcoalo is on the right.
